[Delivery for Hunter! She's agreed to meet him at the local park, and she's given a decent enough description of herself so he can easily find her - she's carrying a small box... but it suspiciously looks a little too big to be for (1) bird scarf.]
[A normal person would have given her their address without a second thought, so she can come over and drop the scarf off.
Hunter is not a normal person.
He figures it's just safer this way. He's used to living in the Emperor's castle, a place with so much controlled access that only very specific people are allowed into. He is not used to a tiny studio provided by a sketchy capitalistic organization. It's weird, the whole situation is weird and makes him uncomfortable, and he doesn't want the added vulnerability of more people than absolutely necessary knowing where he lives. So park it is!
He's already there on a bench, reading some book on Earth history that he's managed to acquire from Zodiac. The bird is perched on a tree branch above him, and when Rascal sees Mirabel he lets out a happy chirp in greeting, causing Hunter to look up.
[When he gets the text it's late at night in Kaisou. He's been busy doing research on Celtic mythology and fairy lore in the human realm, and since he's been at it all night he's kiiind of sort of passed out at his desk.]
[Luckily, his phone going off wakes him up! He flails a little, sending some papers scattering to the floor, but when he realizes it's only his phone he calms down and takes a look. Getting texts at this hour is weird, so he's very confused.]
I'm doing what I can to keep busy. I've already finished the extra credit homework I asked for, and I've taken additional assignments from Zodiac that should help them. Whoever decided students need this much time off must think we're either soft or lazy.
[He can't wrap his head around it. This is way, way, waaaaay too much free time for his liking.]
It did? I'm surprised you were able to make something with how limited potion ingredients here are.
Hunter? This is Rhel. I...saw that you seem to know that shopkeeper on the app, and that she doesn't seem to know you. I wanted to let you know that you're not the first person that this has happened to. I know Raha from my world, but he doesn't recognize me here...and has hyuran ears, which may be the oddest part of all of this, but I digress.
Edited (removes mention of Amal whoops Rhel promised) 2022-05-01 18:42 (UTC)
[This message is a surprise, and Hunter isn't sure if it's reassuring or not. But it's helpful, at least.]
So this isn't some unique incident? I know the Madrigals have one of them who thinks he's lived here all of his life, but I didn't know if the situations were the same.
Do you think this Raha person could remember you, or is he someone completely separate from the person you know?
[Jun had been waiting for a good time to hit Hunter up about power comparing but...then then guy had the public meltdown over returning home. And then Luz showed up. And then Eda. He hadn't said anything, but he had seen it. How could he not?]
[Jun had seen Hunter's return on the network. He had thought of sending a message, but he really didn't know what to say. Anything he did type up felt inappropriate or wrong, so he deleted them each time before sending. He just wasn't good at verbally navigating these things. No matter how much his dad tried, emotional competency just wasn't Jun's strong suit. Eventually he gave up and tossed his phone aside, deciding a different tactic.
A few days later, Hunter will find a package set in front of his door. In the package there's a number of things: a pack of bird seed from August's family's bird sanctuary, a carefully wrapped bag of homemade sugar cookies decorated to look like cardinals, and then...well, he started hitting a wall about what Hunter's interests were, so he threw in a bag of coffee grounds (cause Hunter has the look of a person who is personally against sleep) and a YA novel about magic stuff that is very much standard YA novel faire. Oh, and also a first aid kit that seems focused around treating stab wounds - just in case???
The package contains a get well soon card that has a handwritten note of "Welcome back!" and a drawing of a cardinal.
[Hunter really, really isn't expecting any deliveries. After retrieving Flapjack it takes him a while to calm down, and he's still processing the whole having died business and what that means. Namely, what that'll mean when Belos finds out, because in his mind that's an inevitability.
He's very confused when he opens up the door to his apartment and finds the basket there. Taking it inside, he picks through everything, finding it all very... thoughtful? Of course anything cardinal-related goes over well, as does the coffee. He isn't sure about the book but it seems to be about magic so it's obviously getting read, and while the first aid kit is coming a little late, he had one of those from the Healing Coven back home, and he's sure it will come in handy.
The only issue is that he has no idea who this is from. Thanks, mysterious stranger????]
[The best part of summer vacation? Is actually getting to sleep in. Elliot was more of a night owl by nature, so it was to be expected he'd return to that pattern now that he was free from needing to be up at 6am. So he had stayed up until 3am, working on unpacking boxes and assembling what he could without being too loud. When he went to sleep, thanks to the new bed Rean insisted he get, he fell into a deep and restful slumber - meaning he would've slept through just about anything.
It's around 10am when he finally rolls out of bed. He's thankfully mostly human this time - just a couple fur patches and the ears, nothing his morning bottle of potion won't sort out. Which he left those in the fridge, so he'll be heading downstairs and straight for the kitchen when he leaves his room, still wearing his pajama pants and a violin pun tee that he slept in.
He hasn't spotted Hunter or Flapjack yet but he could hear the movement going on somewhere downstairs so someone had to be up. There's a yawn in his voice, but he sounds cheerful overall] Ah, morning!
[Hunter is, of course, already up. He's been up for several hours, having done some reading and some paperwork for Zodiac. He's even taken Flapjack outside so he can hunt for (normal human realm) worms! Overall a very productive start to the day.
He's down in the kitchen now, having decided to try his hand at domesticity. It wasn't something he ever did in the castle, they had people for that, but it feels like he should make an effort for Elliot, as a form of repayment for letting him stay in his new apartment. Cooking, especially cooking using modern human appliances, isn't his specialty though, and while he luckily doesn't set off the smoke detectors what he does manage to scrounge up is.... unfortunate.
Eggs, bacon, and toast shouldn't be this hard to make, but half of it's burnt and all of it is cold by the time Elliot comes down. There are two plates set out, though Hunter hasn't touched his. He's instead sitting at the counter with a notebook and pencil, working on some research notes about the magic in this realm. Flapjack is sitting on his shoulder, and cheeps in greeting as Hunter looks up.]
Oh - good morning. [He waves at the very sad-looking plates.] I made breakfast.
You are being contacted in regards to your involvement with the manmade portal constructed August 2022. Due to the damage done from the portal, in lieu of the ability to bring this matter to the courts, we've decided to assign you 150 hours of community service, to be completed by December 31st.
The nature of your community service work may be to your choosing from the list provided. Report your hours worked through the Libra app. Failure to comply will result in fines and stricter consequences. You may go to the Zodiac Office if you have any questions about your service.
Thank you for using the Libra app.
[Attached to the message is a long list of different volunteer positions offered throughout the city (think the typical types of volunteer work available). You're free to decide what your character will do for volunteer work and can handwave it happening over the next few months or use it as a CR opportunity. Feel free to contact Yuff if you have any questions!]
[Varian really doesn't like Hunter, but that's fine because Hunter doesn't like him, either. It's a mutual dislike and they sit on their little opposite sides in their Rivalry Corners and it's fine. But even Varian has things he can't sit on. ]
Just so you're aware there's some new girl here who's really mad at you. I explained to her the portal was my invention and you just got the power source, but she seemed pretty convinced you were some sort of evil mastermind.
Which is ridiculous because you follow the rules all the time. I mean I have seen you not actually move an inch until a teacher dismisses you from a classroom. You're a lot of things, but a cackling villain isn't one of them. You're not a terrible person.
[As said by a former cackling villain who knows what it's like and Hunter isn't ALLOWED to have that as a backstory. That's HIS backstory!!
Anyway, that might be a compliment. Hard to say. ]
Anyway, thought you might wanna know because it's a big city and you already put your foot in it in the public eye by not letting me take the fall for my own invention so.
[Oh. Oh wow, this wasn't a message he was ever expecting. He and Varian definitely aren't friends, and while they worked on the portals together that didn't mean he liked the other boy. At all. So Varian warning him, even trying to help him, is... it's weird. Very weird. He'd be suspicious if he didn't immediately know who he was talking about.]
AmITY blIGHT,, I'm GUESSING. i KNOW hER, SHE'S FROM THE SAME REALM AS ME. sHE"S INTENT ON RAKING THE EMPEROR AND MY COVEN'S NAME THROUGH THE MUD,FOR NO REASON. juST IGNORE HER.

[While Jun wasn't that keen on taking on jobs for Zodiac, this did count for the community service hours he needed to fulfill. And working alongside his friend made it all the better.
So it's nighttime when they're on the hunt. Jun had his shroud hood up, since he rather his face not be seen during his work. While he had been idly conversing here and there, he'd mostly been focusing on trying to sense the ogre they were sent to find. Which to that end...he'll stop at a seemingly vacate area of town at this hour.]
There's something ahead. I sense three presences rather than one though.
[Hunter is in his full uniform as well, what with this being a job for Zodiac and all. He's far more comfortable taking on something like an ogre in it, and he's happy to see Jun had the same idea. They're both taking this very seriously. This counting towards their community service is also a nice bonus.
He doesn't sound deterred by the number of presences. In fact, that might prove to be advantageous to them.]
Three? That's no problem. We can take care of them easily. It might even be worthwhile to interrogate them and see what they know.

I just wanted to thank you. I figured out a potion that's been helping with the curse, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without your advice.
