[He gets his uniform on, though he leaves his mask behind, and he heads out with Flapjack in his staff form. It's a little bit nerve-wracking, since he doesn't want Flapjack to get hurt, but he'll arrive at the Park shortly.
He teleports in a flash of gold, even! It's super cool.]
[When Hunter gets there, Jun is already there. Or rather, a white shrouded figure is there. He watches Hunter appear in a flash of gold, his hand on his hip.
When he speaks, his voice sound very different as he speaks through the modulator in his hood]
Well, no. First he's startled at the voice, spinning around and aiming his staff at Jun defensively. It takes him a second to realize that this might not actually be some enemy ambushing him, though.]
[Ah, there we go. Hunter relaxes, lowering his staff.]
It's fine.
[And now that he knows he isn't about to be attacked, he takes a step closer, looking Jun over. That outfit looks like his own, and suddenly he's wishing he had brought his mask along.]
Nice uniform. You never told me you were part of... some organization? Zodiac?
[Well Hunter your bar for what's fine is so low it's in Hell, so that's valid]
Since I joined the app, I've been getting memories from a version of myself in another life - as well as his abilities and other things. [Like the uniform. ] Apparently others have been experiencing the same.
I'm not sure what it means, but I have a feeling it's connected to the phenomena that brought you and the other isekais here.
Hunter stares, and it might be an invasion of personal space, but he's suddenly stepping in close and grabbing Jun's shoulders.]
Memories of another life?? [Ohhh, this could be what's happening with Raine! (And Eda, but mostly Raine.) If they're the same situation, then this could be useful. This could be exactly what he needs to help Raine get their memories back.] What's been triggering your memories?? Have you noticed any physical changes??
[Oh wow Hunter that sure is close. It's hard to feel the shoulder grab through the uniform, so he will try to pull away or anything- just owl blink a little at Hunter getting worked up]
...My hair used to be black? [Compared the minty green now. So yes! That counts as one] And the triggers for memories are random, you can't really control them. Sometimes they happen when you're doing a similar action to what your other self did, so I tried to force them to come a few times ... but the results weren't very successful.
[Hunter's eyes dart to Jun's hair and that is so, so encouraging! It was bizarre seeing Raine's ears look like normal human ones, but if their appearance was also altered that would definitely explain it.
Less encouraging is Jun's experience with his memories. Frowning, Hunter lets go of him.]
What did you try to do to force them, exactly? Maybe you weren't doing it right.
Went to different places I thought would be notable, used the powers I obtained, visited the spirit realm, got into fights, read the bible, prayed, tried different foods, sat on rooftops, watched and read different popular media that seemed relevant, made art I thought might jog a memory, kept a dream journal...
I don't know...I'm not sure I like the idea of using anything from Zodiac that might mess with my brain. They might put something in there I don't want.
[Clutching his staff a little tighter, Hunter looks very, very serious. He knows there's no guarantee Jun will agree, or that he will and then go back on his word later (since, as far as he's aware, that's just a thing that happens with friendship) but he needs to try.]
I need you to promise that you won't tell anyone about Flapjack.
[And the staff dissolves, the wooden cardinal statue on the end shifting to Flapjack's normal bird form. He chirps and settles on Hunter's shoulder.]
[Luckily for Hunter, he's asking the one person who is perhaps the best secret keeper in all of Kaisou - aside from possibly his father. If he's a little curious why Hunter would want to keep that a secret, he doesn't show it and he's not gonna ask. He's being asked to keep a secret that seems important, so he will. That's all there is to it.]
Mm, you have my word. No one will know.
[The Contract is Sealed. And with that, Jun will gesture Hunter to follow him down the path and deeper into the woods. ]
This way. I know a spot where it's unlikely anyone will see us.
[ At least it'll be easy enough for both of them to disappear if Jun's proven wrong on that end. it's...a little nice not being the only teleporter. ]
[June's word is certainly good enough for Hunter right now. He'll have to see if things work out, but he doesn't specialize in oracle magic. He can't see the future.
Flapjack seems perfectly content with this promise too, and tweets happily. Things are good!
Hunter will follow after Jun, looking around at the trees the entire way. He's never going to get over the trees being so green.]
That sounds good. [The fewer chances for people to see Flapjack, then better.]
[He'll keep walking awhile in silence, occasionally glancing around to make sure they aren't being followed. There shouldn't be reason for them to be followed, but one can never be too sure.
Eventually they reach a clearing in the forest with a pond, and Jun will come to stop]
Here. This is actually where the first Spirit Gate appeared after the app started. [Way back in January] It's long gone now, but maybe there'll be enough spirit energy leftover to make it a good spot for magic practice.
[In...theory anyway. His ability to sense such things wasn't any better than anyone else's, so he couldn't be sure. But hey in theory....!]
[He's also probably never going to get over the lack of danger, because this simple walk through the woods is quiet and peaceful. They're alone the entire way, too. When they reach the pond Hunter is doing his best to memorize their surroundings - doubly important upon hearing that this is where the first Spirit Gate appeared. He sorely wishes he had any magic sense, and as far as he knows Flapjack doesn't, either, but he should come back here in the future and do some investigating.]
That's strange, it doesn't seem like there's anything out here except trees.
[No ruins, no structures that would suggest this is a place of magical significance. That's even more reason to come back later.
For now he shakes his head, then spins his staff.]
We'll see if this place has any effect on our magic. As for teleporting....
Mm, I don't know the significance of the spot either.
[And as of right now, he didn't have a way to analyze it either. It's another mystery for another day. For now, it's time to play with teleporting!
He'll watch Hunter teleport, trying to make sense of his process. It really is impressively fast. In return, he'll raise up his hand with the first two fingers out. There's a burst of blue light, before he disappears and reappears a few feet from where Hunter went. While it's not slow, it is a second or two slower than Hunter.
[Hunter pauses where he is, lowering his staff a little and watching Jun's display of teleportation. It doesn't seem all that different from his own which, on the one hand, is very interesting.
On the other hand, similar magic to Flapjack means wild magic. Part of him is uncertain, and a little guilty for that interest.
At the question, he looks down at Flapjack at the end of the staff. The bird's presence is a reassurance.]
It's a little hard to explain.
[It isn't the same as using his artificial staff. Wild magic has definite differences, and at first it was weird. But he's adapted quickly.]
He's letting me use his magic. It's something of a partnership between us. I focus on his magic, and what I want to do with it, and then do it.

[Where would be a good spot. Oh wait-]
I know a place. Meet me at the entrance of Kami State Park in five?
[And by five, he means five minutes]

Not Zodiac.
[He shakes off the terseness. Weird man. ]
...I'm not. But I think my other self was part of some order of holy knights.
no subject
Your other self? What does that mean?
[He wants to ask about this order too, but that's more intriguing.]

[In other words, he was pretty thorough.]
no subject
There has to be something else. I can see if Zodiac has anything on memory alteration, that might help.
no subject
I don't know...I'm not sure I like the idea of using anything from Zodiac that might mess with my brain. They might put something in there I don't want.
[Like ads. Are brain advertisements a thing???]
no subject
I'm sure it'll be fine! [Just trust the questionable capitalistic organization because it's an authority Jun.]
Anyways, before I show you any more magic, I need you to promise something.
no subject
Hm? What is it?
no subject
I need you to promise that you won't tell anyone about Flapjack.
